What is Incontinence?

Incontinence is the accidental or involuntary loss of urine from the bladder or bowel motion, including wind from the bowel.

Who has Incontinence?

Incontinence affects many of us.  People of all ages, cultures and backgrounds may experience incontinence.

Women are prone to bladder and bowel problems earlier in life as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

Women's Health Physiotherapy (a specialised physiotherapy service)

An assessment with our qualified therapist, Lauren Stanley, will provide help for pelvic floor weakness, which serves an important role in control of the bladder and bowel to prevent incontinence and prolapse.

Real-time ultrasound is used to assess the strength and endurance in the pelvic floor muscle group.  Exercises are prescribed to increase endurance and advice on dietary and fluid intake given.

As strength and endurance improve, these muscles are incorporated into a functional Pilates program, aiming to improve core stability and breathing technique.

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from greater awareness in this important area, please don't hesitate to give us a call.
