Clinical Pilates

What is Pilates and Clinical Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise methodology that centres on developing core strength to improve movement, posture and co-ordination. The exercises can be performed either as a floor routine on a mat or by utilising pilates-specific equipment called reformer beds and trapeze tables.

Clinical Pilates utilises the pilates technique to treat an individual’s injuries through a selection of specific exercises that are usually performed on reformers and trapeze equipment. The exercises, which place emphasis on the lumbar region, abdominal muscles and pelvic muscles, can be modified to suit beginners to advanced level, as well as alter intensity to ensure a progressive increase in core strength.

Hoppers Physio and Pilates

Our physiotherapists, who have completed thorough training of the pilates discipline, recommend pilates because it can assist you with recovery from injury and prevent re-injury.  Conditions of the back, neck and shoulder commonly benefit from clinical pilates.

Our pilates gym is equipped with industry-standard pilates reformer beds, trapeze tables, trapeze barrel and other related equipment.  Our gym also has bikes and treadmills to complement pilates routines with cardio-respiratory exercise.

Prior to performing Pilates at Hoppers Physio, a Real-Time Ultrasound (RTUS) Assessment needs to be carried out to assess your core muscles for appropriate contraction techniques.
