During and following pregnancy, a gentle and graduated exercise program is essential to minimize the occurrence of back pain, incontinence, prolapse and other common pre & post-natal complications. It is well researched that exercising the pelvic floor and improving the general fitness of an individual before and after any trauma, such as delivery, to the pelvic area results in improved awareness and control of the muscles controlling the bladder and bowel, and also facilitates easier future deliveries. Pilates 4 mums classes are great in conjuction with our watermum’s program.
Run by a physiotherapist, the classes involve some low-impact aerobic exercise to get the blood moving. This is followed by strengthening exercises targeting the major muscle groups and the pelvic floor. It is well known that every pregnancy and delivery is different and so recovery happens at different rates. For this reason, our physiotherapist always provides a harder/easier option for each exercises you get a work out at your own intensity level.
